Epic wire battles!

Paper clip guy

I used to manage a fine art store. I worked in all departments of the store. Eventually I worked at the corporate level,.. so I was EXTREMELY BORED a lot of the time. Most days I would get all of my work done by about 2 or 3 o'clock.... so I would goof off or doodle,...and one day i made a sculpture out of vinyl coated paper clips,. . . no tools were used, just my hands,...
Then years later-( being bored at a different job) I started sculpting again!

WHISK FLOWER !

My 9-5 job (to put it delicately) sells really dumb things,..I can not mention by name where I work due to a social media contract I signed, ya know just in case something I say ruffles corporates feathers. But any-hoo,...my work used to sell these vinyl coated colored whisks. (and not even in good colors) As you can image they didn't sell,...at all. So there were clearanced. I bought a bunch of 'em.
It sits on top of a re-purposed c.d/d.v.d wire rack, with some of works in progress

Wire Critter doodle

I made this critter while sitting at family party. All of us were in the back yard and there were scraps of heavy wire. You know me, have Leatherman will travel. Being bored as often as I am, and having a mini utlity belt on me, sometimes I'm like a large Gremlin. I bend, tighten, unscrew, straighten, and cut stuff,... and sometimes it's constructive. This wire doodle now sits in Kelly's mom's kitchen on a window ledge.

Wire Shrimp!

I made this little guy while sitting in a meeting at work, bored outta my mind.
Unfortunately, my 9-5 job is often very, very, boring. And it doesn't really give me an adequate outlet for my creative needs. The meeting ended, I tossed him in the pocket of my hoodie and went on with day,...later on it fell out of my pocket and I left him with my friend Lori. Later on, she sent me a pic of it on her dashboard!

F I S H

A heavier gauge wire was used for this fish. I added black coated wire for the eyes.
It's supposed to be a goldfish,..looks a bit like a flying fish though. I will be adding color to it later. Golds, coppers & purple,..( a finished pic with the added color to be posted later) Also I am trying something new by adding an acrylic block as a base, to give it a more finished look!

Bee ! !

I used a heavier more rigid wire, than usual for the skeleton of this piece & the wings. Black & yellow coated color wire was used to make it look all Bee'd up!! A heavy color wire was used for the antennae and eyes!
I like how this piece came out!

Mantis!

This is one of the largest pieces I've done.(there's a quarter in the pic for scale) It took me app. 4 days,...so really, really quickly-(compared to the previous pieces) I am extremely pleased with how this came out. The majority of the wire used was framing wire,... but the thinner "floral" wire was used for texture, and strengthening over the framing wire. This is the first sculpture I've made that has multiple colors of wire in it. I tend to not do well with color in most of my art. Unless the color is very subtle....so I kept the color usage very conservative. Copper for the antennae, eye sockets, mandibles, & claws! 2 light shades of green were wrapped around the entire body. I spaced it very loosely,...again with the subtle

W-I-R-E__S-K-U-W-I-D

lots and lots of wire was used to make Skuwid. I finished making him in 2 days! A very short ammount of time, at least compared to other pieces I've done of similar size. I used metal rings and washer held in place with forming wire for the eyes!
An extremely fun piece! I am happy with how it came out!

8/22/11- I added 2 new pictures! I didn't do the proper research on squids,..did you know that they actually have 10 arms/legs? 8 regular tentacles, and 2 slightly longer arms with barbs on it for catching prey. My Squid isn't likely to be catching anything, so those extra recently added arms are holding business cards!

Wire Ant!

An Ant!!!

A fun piece to work on. Multiple pieces of wire were used for the ant. Less maleable copper colored wire was used for the pinchers and antennae. Screws for eyes!
